Green Building Consulting

Want a healthy building and having trouble putting all the pieces together?

build well, live well...

Our motto is “Build Well, Live Well,” and we help our clients do just that. HBI helps owners and design/build teams set clear goals for sustainability and navigate the complexities of building science and occupant health to create healthy, high performance buildings.

Challenge

Few designers and contractors combine the mainstream green building rating systems with pivotal occupant health issues such as controlling moisture and mold, allergens, or electromagnetic radiation.

Solution

Add an expert to the team. HBI’s design and construction consulting adds a holistic and experienced, healthy building perspective to your design/build team. Set clear and high goals for your project and feel confident your team will perform. Build a healthy habitat you feel comfortable and safe in, and your whole team will be proud.

Success Story

A place of worship needed more office and prayer space, but the congregation was concerned about how a renovation project would affect the health of staff and visitors. They wanted a “green” building, but were unsure how to get there. With our help they set ambitious goals and challenged the design/build team to create a high performance, healthy building with low operating costs. Healthy materials, finishes and furnishings were specified and the HVAC was carefully designed to automatically introduce more outside air when carbon dioxide levels rose indoors. During construction, an IAQ Management Plan ensured construction workers and other portions of the building were not exposed to contaminants, and a Construction Waste Management Plan helped keep more than 95% of construction waste out of the landfill. The non-profit was awarded a higher LEED certification than originally sought, and the congregation is proud and comfortable in their new building.

Design and Construction Consulting Benefits

Having a third-party representative of sustainability at the table puts high performance first, and the status quo on notice. HBI brings environmental science and building science depth to your design/build team. We add value through our unique education and experience.
